Charlotte’s Kitchen was inspired by Michael’s grandma, Charlotte. Growing up, Michael spent his summers at “Grandma Camp” at her house, where he learned how to make things like bread and jam and pay attention to the little details that make food unforgettable. At Grandma Camp, Charlotte taught Michael that food brings people together and that there’s always room for one more at the table. If someone showed up hungry, they got fed.
Charlotte’s Kitchen carries her name for a reason. The heart, the hospitality, and the love for really good food all started with her. And if you stop by Char’s, there’s a good chance you’ll see Grandma Charlotte enjoying a milkshake or out front working in the garden.
Charlotte's Kitchen isn't just based in Des Moines — we're part of it. Founded right here in Johnston, we've grown alongside this community and that means everything to us. We're not a franchise or a chain. We're neighbors.
That community spirit shows up in everything we do, including Fried Chicken for a Cause, our canned food drive benefiting the Johnston Partnership food pantry. Because taking care of people doesn't stop at the kitchen window.

We're always looking for good people to join the team. If you love great food and even better people, you'll fit right in. With locations in Johnston, Altoona, Indianola, and Waukee, there's likely a spot near you.
